All about Cherry blossom & peak bloom 2022

It’s time again!

According to this website , the peak of cherry blossoms in Washington is expected to be from March 22 to 25! How excited!

The Washington DC Cherry Blossom Festival, held each spring around Easter, marks the start of the cherry blossom season in Washington, as well as the most beautiful season in the city. Cherry blossoms are lovely, but they only bloom for about two weeks. When the cherry blossoms in Washington DC bloom, the entire tree blooms; not only is each cluster light and soft in the swaying of the spring breeze, but clusters and layers of crimson buds are colorful and dazzling under the reflection of the green spring colors.

Origin

Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki presented the United States with 6,000 cherry blossoms in 1912 to signify peace and friendship between the two countries, and the flowers were returned to Japan with a dogwood bush by the US government. The first two cherry blossoms were planted by hand on the west side of Tidal Lake by Helen Herron Taft, then-First Lady of the United States, and the Wife of the Japanese Ambassador, with 3,000 in New York and 3,000 in Washington, D.C. The inaugural Washington Cherry Blossom Festival was conducted in 1935, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival was hosted in Washington from January through late March to late April to commemorate the US-Japan relationship!

With hundreds of cherry blossoms blooming along the Potomac River and attracting thousands of tourists, the annual cherry blossom festival has become a famous tourist site in Washington, D.C. There are white-haired senior citizens strolling beneath the trees, parents pushing strollers, running children, and lovers in love… On Constitution Avenue, there is also a cherry blossom festival parade. The cherry blossom trees in the United States capital have become a delightful and lovely addition.

Cherry blossom festival event

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is now three weeks long, beginning with an opening ceremony at the Warner Theater in mid-March and continuing for a few days afterward.
Three stage events are held on the southwest waterfront on the second Saturday of the cherry blossom festival. A fireworks display is held in the Washington Waterways at the conclusion of the festival. The following morning, a race was held, and in the evening, a stone lantern presented by Japan in 1954 was lit.
The organizers of the last cherry blossom celebration held a large march on Saturday morning. Prior to 2015, the Cherry Blossom Celebration was the largest Japanese cultural festival in the United States.
