Organizing your home – Where to start?

Let’s get started on this fantastic home organizing work!

Fun facts: According to research, 27% of people spend two or more hours per day looking for something due to unorganized home issue. This equates to nearly one-third of the population. Imagine how much time we could save if we spent one or two days a month cleaning up! Want to give it a try? Let’s give it a try!

Everything is difficult at first! Most of us notice a mess in the house but don’t know where to start cleaning it up. It’s such a pain! Don’t worry, the steps below will get you started in the right direction and save you time and effort.

  • Set Clear Goals

If we don’t have a goal in mind, we’re likely to run into the following two issues once we get started:

The first issue is that you start cleaning up enthusiastically, but after a while, you may develop a choice phobia: Do I want this? Is this something I’d be interested in? What if this comes in handy later on? You will gradually lose motivation to clean up and will eventually give up. Believe me, this happens to most of us!

The second issue is that you’ve been cleaning for a long time but the room is still a mess because you don’t know what exactly is causing the mess! It’s an endless loop.  Frustrating right? It sure is!!

To avoid both situations. You need to calm down and think about why you’re cleaning up and what you’re doing. What is the purpose of what you want to leave behind and discard? Is it because you’ve moved into a new house? Or do you want to save time and money by simplifying your daily life? Or do you want to adopt a more minimalist way of life?

  • Analyzing the Situation

If you look around, your room may be disorganized, and your mood may be depressed and nervous. Don’t worry, the situation is probably not as bad as it appears. Or just a few spots that make the whole thing look sloppy, such as the sofa or the shoe cabinet; or perhaps only a few items, such as clothes and small items.

Then you must forecast the situation: do you need to hire a truck to remove the items? Or do you require the assistance of a professional cleaner? Or is it as simple as purchasing a few garbage bags to store your belongings?

  • Break the task into steps

You can divide the tasks into steps and complete each one before discarding the items you don’t want. You can organize each room individually or organize the same items in multiple rooms at the same time. For example, you could start by cleaning up the cosmetics; some may be in the bathroom, others in the bedroom, or even in the living room.

Personally, I prefer a combination of the two approaches. To begin, I clean up any areas that need it, such as closets or storage rooms. Because the family dining room and living room are usually connected, sorting and storage can be done at the same time.

If cleaning a large room proves difficult, divide it into steps. To organize the office, for example, start with the desk, then the documents, then the bookcase, and so on.

In a nutshell, we just need to gather the clutter from around the house and organize it into a specific location. If we need to organize our wardrobe before we can organize our dresser, we’ll do it together. If the room is extremely small, we will have to clean it all at once.

  • Get some home organizer

If you have no prior experience with home organization and do not have organizers, you may quickly become exhausted and lose motivation. You should prepare some organizers first, such as garbage bags, storage boxes, wall-mounted storage bags, drawer splitters, and so on.

Instead of going to the store and purchasing whatever you want, plan ahead of time and only purchase what you require. We don’t want the decluttering task to add to the clutter in our home. If you sort through the items first, you can decide what to keep and what to donate or give away. Before you go shopping, you can decide what kind of organizer you’ll need.

  • Prevent boredom

Many people find organizing and storing to be very boring, and it certainly is!! I recommend that you listen to music, talk on the phone with friends, interact with your pets or children, or do anything else that will make you relax while cleaning up. Try to make cleaning up a fun activity!

You will be overjoyed when you see the end result!

Happy living & simple living!
